Alan Oliver worked for a Los Angeles advertising agency. Following up on a lead for a new job, he went for an interview in Seattle, Washington. When he returned, he found live-in girlfriend, Janet, moved in with another guy. Ever since kindergarten, he had a best friend named Marissa who was a very faithful friend. The problem was that Alan was always attracted to the love them and leave them type. Marissa eventually married a guy named Paul, but she still maintained a platonic relationship with Alan. When Marissa separated from Paul, Alan only had eyes for an artist named Tracy.
