Prince is a 1969 Indian movie that follows the enthralling story of Prince Shamsher Singh, played by the iconic Shammi Kapoor. Shamsher Singh is an arrogant, wealthy and privileged prince who is used to getting whatever he wants. He has never known failure, defeat or sacrifice in life, so much so that he himself believes he's invincible. However, his life takes an unexpected turn when he falls in love with a beautiful village girl called, of all things, Rajkumari Vishaka, played by Vyjayanthimala.
The premise of the film is based on the age-old tale of a prince falling in love with a commoner. The movie begins with the introduction of Prince Shamsher Singh, who is shown to be a spoilt and selfish ruler. He is highly revered among his subjects and showered with praise everywhere he goes. However, his ego and pride get the better of him when he is challenged by a wise, old man who challenges him on the purpose of his existence. To prove his worth, Shamsher Singh embarks on a journey of soul searching, which eventually leads him to a small village, where he meets Vishaka.
Vishaka is a typical, traditional Indian village girl, living a simple life with her parents and siblings. Shamsher's sudden arrival in her village causes quite a stir among the village folk, and Vishaka is no exception. She is mesmerized by the prince's charm and falls in love with him. However, she is aware of the divide between their social status and the impossibility of their relationship.
As the story progresses, the prince tries to win Vishaka's love, but his attempts are met with resistance, as Vishaka refuses to accept his advances. The prince is confused by Vishaka's attitude, which contrasts with the way he perceives himself. He is in awe of her simplicity and purity and realizes that their worlds are completely different, yet he can't help but be attracted to her.
The story takes an intriguing turn when the Prince is abducted by a gang of thugs who force him to work as a laborer, along with Vishaka's father. This incident proves to be a turning point in the Prince's life who begins to realize the hardships of the common people. Through his experiences, he learns the true meaning of love, sacrifice and courage, which eventually helps him to win Vishaka's heart.
The movie stands out for the exceptional performances of the lead cast, especially Shammi Kapoor, who was known for his flamboyant style and eccentric dance moves. Vyjayanthimala's portrayal of Vishaka is also commendable, and the chemistry between the two lead actors is remarkable. The music of the film, composed by Shankar Jaikishan, is also noteworthy, featuring memorable songs like 'Badan Pe Sitare Lapete Huye' and 'Tumhari Mast Nazar Garde Kis Kaam Ke'.
Overall, Prince is an engaging and heartwarming movie that explores themes of love, sacrifice, and social divide. The film delivers a compelling message of the importance of understanding and empathy, which stand relevant even today. The movie is a must-watch for fans of classic Bollywood cinema and for those who enjoy a good old-fashioned love story.
