Primeval is a heart-pumping thriller that takes the audience on a wild ride into the heart of the African jungle. Directed by Michael Katleman, the film stars Dominic Purcell, Orlando Jones, and Brooke Langton, and centers around a group of journalists who set out to capture a deadly, man-eating crocodile terrorizing the locals. The movie begins with a shot of an African village where a man is suddenly attacked and dragged underwater by an unseen predator. Soon, news of the mysterious attacks reaches the media, and a group of journalists is dispatched to investigate the situation.
Led by Tim Manfrey (played by Purcell), a seasoned reporter who has seen it all, the group includes his cameraman Steven Johnson (played by Jones) and his producer and ex-girlfriend Aviva Masters (played by Langton).
As they arrive in the African jungle, they begin investigating the attacks and meet with a local crocodile hunter named Matthew Collins (played by Gabriel Malema). Collins agrees to take the journalists deeper into the jungle in search of the man-eating crocodile, known as Gustave, whom he has been hunting for years.
As the team navigates deeper into the African wilderness, they face various challenges, from dangerous terrain to hostile locals to a corrupt government that doesn't want them to expose their secrets. However, they persevere in their mission, determined to capture Gustave and bring him back alive to the world.
Throughout the film, the tension ratchets up as Gustave continually eludes the team. Meanwhile, the relationships between the journalists become increasingly strained, with Aviva struggling to overcome her feelings for Tim while Steven grows increasingly reckless in his pursuit of the perfect shot.
As they get closer to capturing Gustave, both the team's physical and emotional states begin to unravel. They push themselves to the brink of danger, and they must rely on each other to survive.
Overall, Primeval is a thrilling ride that keeps the audience on the edge of their seats. It features strong performances from its leads, with Purcell delivering a convincing portrayal of the cynical and jaded journalist Tim. Jones provides some excellent comedic relief as the wisecracking cameraman Steven, and Langton brings depth to her portrayal of a determined and conflicted producer.
The film is also visually stunning, with breathtaking shots of the African jungle and its diverse wildlife. The special effects are convincing, with Gustave portrayed as a menacing and deadly predator.
Although the plot could be predictable at times, Primeval is an entertaining and well-executed adventure that fans of action and adventure films will enjoy. It is a film that deftly combines suspense, humor, and drama to create a memorable viewing experience.
