In the town of Pottersville, a seemingly average everyman named Maynard Greiger (Michael Shannon) leads a mundane life. He runs a local general store and is married to a woman named Connie (Christina Hendricks), who is a talented artist but struggles to make a living. One day, Maynard discovers that his wife is a secret furry, meaning that she dresses up in a full-body animal suit and attends conventions with other furries. Shocked and hurt by this revelation, Maynard drinks heavily and wanders the streets in his bathrobe.

When he wakes up the next morning, Maynard discovers that the townspeople have mistaken him for Bigfoot due to his bathrobe and wild hair. Determined to play along with the misunderstanding, he dons a Sasquatch costume and begins to cause havoc in the town, bringing both joy and chaos to its inhabitants.

As Maynard's antics gain media attention, Pottersville becomes a tourist destination, with visitors flocking to the town in hopes of catching a glimpse of the elusive Bigfoot. Connie, horrified by the attention and upset with Maynard for going along with the ruse, decides to leave him.

Meanwhile, the town's resident millionaire, Stork (Ron Perlman), is eager to exploit the Bigfoot phenomenon for his own gain. He hires a team of hunters to track down and capture the creature, offering a large reward to whoever can bring it in.

As the hunt for Bigfoot intensifies, Maynard begins to regret his decision to masquerade as the creature. He realizes that his actions have caused real harm to the people he loves and the town he calls home. But with Stork and his hunters closing in, Maynard must decide whether to come clean about his identity or continue to play the role of the infamous Sasquatch.

Pottersville is a quirky and offbeat comedy that explores themes of identity, longing, and the power of perception. Michael Shannon delivers a standout performance as Maynard, capturing both the humor and pathos of his character's journey. He is supported by a talented cast that includes Judy Greer as a local radio DJ, Thomas Lennon as a reality TV producer, and Ron Perlman as the conniving Stork.

Director Seth Henrikson infuses the film with a whimsical charm, featuring lighthearted musical numbers and colorful, exaggerated visuals that enhance the comedic tone. The film's screenplay, written by Daniel Meyer, is filled with clever one-liners and unexpected twists that keep the audience engaged.

Overall, Pottersville is a delightful and endearing film that offers a refreshing take on classic monster movie tropes. It's a charming and heartfelt comedy that is sure to leave viewers with a smile on their faces.

Pottersville is a 2017 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 24 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.5.
