Possessor, a 2020 science-fiction horror movie, is a tale of deceit, violence, and identity crisis, directed by Brandon Cronenberg. The movie takes place in a dystopian world where an organization runs hit jobs by taking control of people's minds. The story follows Tasya Vos, a skilled assassin who uses the cutting-edge technology to enter the body of an innocent person and use them to execute the assassination. Tasya is played by Andrea Riseborough, who portrayed the character with profound aggression and vulnerability. She works for a company that provides hit jobs; however, the organization is not just after wealth, for their employer's vision to transcend above human limitations is an ultimate purpose.

The plot of the movie kicks up a notch when Tasya agrees to execute a job that is more complicated than any she's ever done before. She enters the body of Colin Tate, played by Christopher Abbot, who has been chosen as a giant tech CEO's next target. Colin is a man with a disconcerting life; he's in a complicated relationship with his girlfriend, has family issues, and is drastically behind his job's expectations.

As Tasya takes over Colin's body, the movie takes the viewer on a twisted journey that is both uncomfortable and fascinating with every scene. Possessor is intentionally ambiguous, blurring the lines between reality and fantasy, making it difficult to tell where the story is going to go. The cinematography is dark, gloomy, and grim, highlighting the bleak and hostile world Brandon Cronenberg had created. Each shot is thought-provoking, and the camera angles serve as an additional tool to maintain suspense and add to the haunting storyline.

One of the most intriguing aspects of Possessor is the psychological tug of war between Tasya and Colin. As Tasya begins to experience difficulties controlling Colin's mind, their worlds start to collide. And as the movie unfolds, Tasya's sense of identity and conscience undergoes a substantial transformation. It is a battle of the ego that ultimately contributes to the story's climax, which is both violent and unforgiving.

The film's cast is excellent, with Jennifer Jason Leigh's performance as Girder, Tasya's handler, being a standout. Sean Bean, playing Tasya's boss, also delivers an excellent performance as he tries to keep his ambitious projects on track while trying to maintain his employee's sanity.

In summary, Possessor is a fascinating thriller that will leave the audience mesmerized and horrified. It is captivating, with great performances from the cast and an innovative storyline from the director. It is a slow burner that will keep the audience engaged as it builds its characters, suspends disbelief and ultimately traverses into a dark abyss of power, control, and betrayal. Brandon Cronenberg's vision is unique and intriguing, and although confusing to some, it is a remarkable piece of work that deserves a chance to be seen.

Possessor is a 2020 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 43 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.5 and a MetaScore of 72.
