Poltergeist II is a classic supernatural horror movie from 1986, and is a sequel to the popular 1982 film Poltergeist. Directed by Brian Gibson, the movie stars JoBeth Williams, Craig T. Nelson and Heather O'Rourke. The plot of this film follows the Freeling family as they battle a terrifying evil force that has invaded their home and threatens to destroy them all.

The story of Poltergeist II picks up a few years after the events of the original movie. The Freelings have moved to a new home and seem to have left the haunting experiences behind them. However, they soon discover that some things from their past have come back to haunt them. The family is once again targeted by the malevolent force that is determined to possess and destroy them all.

The evil presence is revealed to be the ghost of a powerful Native American shaman named Kane. He was responsible for the destruction of his own tribe, but was stopped from extending his reign of terror by Taylor, a good shaman. Since they were both killed, Kane and his followers are unable to move on, and they haunt the area waiting to carry out further atrocities. Through the use of a creepy doll, Kane begins to make his presence felt, initially by manipulating the youngest member of the Freeling family, the innocent Carol Anne, who has an ability to communicate with the spirit world.

As the haunting intensifies, the Freelings seek the help of a spiritual medium named Tangina (Zelda Rubinstein), who appeared in the first movie. She tells them that Kane is after Carol Anne, and that they need to perform a Native American cleansing ritual in order to protect her, and banish Kane and his followers. In order to perform the ritual, they need the help of Taylor (Will Sampson), the good shaman who managed to stop Kane before.

The movie sees the return of many familiar characters from the first movie, along with some new ones, including Taylor and his grandson. It offers plenty of scares, with numerous jump scares and creepy imagery. It also offers some intriguing backstory for Kane and his followers, providing some depth to the evil presence terrorizing the Freelings.

JoBeth Williams and Craig T. Nelson deliver strong performances as the parents of the family, while Heather O'Rourke, despite her young age, manages to convey innocence and fear brilliantly. Will Sampson also delivers a powerful performance as Taylor, the wise and courageous shaman who helps the Freelings to overcome the evil that threatens to consume them.

The special effects are impressive considering the time period, featuring practical effects that still manage to be terrifying to this day. The film's score, composed by Jerry Goldsmith, is also worth mentioning, as it helps to intensify the horror and tension of the story.

Overall, Poltergeist II is a worthy sequel to the original classic. It offers a gripping story that draws the viewer in from the start, with plenty of scares and a great cast of characters. It also provides some interesting insight into Native American mythology, as well as the concept of an evil being that is determined to possess and destroy all those it encounters. A must-watch for horror movie enthusiasts.

Poltergeist II is a 1986 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 30 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.7 and a MetaScore of 49.
