Poisoned Love: The Stacey Castor Story is a 2020 made-for-television movie directed by Jim Donovan and produced by Reel One Entertainment. It tells the true story of Stacey Castor, a woman who was convicted for the murder of her second husband, and the attempted murder of her daughter. Stacey Castor, played by Nia Vardalos, is a stay-at-home mother living in upstate New York with her two daughters, Ashley, played by Genea Charpentier, and Bree, played by Chanelle Peloso. Her first husband had passed away in his sleep due to a heart attack, or so Stacey claims. Her second husband, David Castor, played by Mike Dopud, dies unexpectedly in his sleep as well, but something about his death feels off to the authorities.
As investigations continue, it becomes clear that Stacey is not the grieving widow she claims to be. The police find out that Stacey had been poisoning her husband with antifreeze, and had even attempted to poison her own daughter, Ashley. With mounting evidence against her, Stacey tries to cover her tracks and point the finger at others, including her own daughter.
The film takes the audience on a disturbing journey as it reveals the depths of Stacey's deceit and manipulation. We see the impact of her actions on her daughters, who struggle to come to terms with the fact that their mother is a cold-blooded killer.
Nia Vardalos delivers a powerful performance in the lead role of Stacey Castor. She portrays the character's complexity and ruthlessness with subtlety and nuance, making it clear that Stacey is not your typical killer. Instead, she is a master manipulator who is charming and manipulative, yet always manages to evade suspicion until it's too late.
Mike Dopud also excels in his portrayal of David Castor, the unwitting victim of Stacey's twisted plans. He presents a character who is desperate to make his marriage work, despite the signs that something is wrong.
The film is well-paced, with tight editing that keeps the tension high from start to finish. The script is also well-written, with dialogue that feels authentic and natural. The cinematography is superb, with a dark color palette that enhances the film's ominous tone.
Overall, Poisoned Love: The Stacey Castor Story is a chilling tale of a mother's love gone horribly wrong. It is a cautionary tale about the dangers of obsession and manipulation, and the devastating consequences that can result from them. It is a film that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.
