Piranha 3DD is a 2012 horror-comedy film directed by John Gulager and starring Danielle Panabaker, Ving Rhames, and David Hasselhoff. The movie is a sequel to the 2010 film Piranha 3D, but features a new set of characters and takes place in a different location. The plot of Piranha 3DD revolves around a water park called Big Wet, owned by Chet (David Koechner), who is determined to make it the hottest destination in town. His stepdaughter, Maddy (Danielle Panabaker), returns from college to help with the management of the park, but soon discovers that a group of piranha have made their way into the park's pools, threatening the lives of the guests.
Joined by her friends, Shelby (Katrina Bowden) and Ashley (Meagan Tandy), Maddy tries to convince Chet to shut down the park, but he refuses, citing the potential loss of revenue. Meanwhile, Deputy Fallon (Ving Rhames), who survived the previous piranha attack, returns with a new set of legs and a shotgun, determined to take down the deadly fish once and for all.
As the piranha continue to wreak havoc, the park's staff and guests begin to panic and make desperate attempts to escape, leading to gruesome and hilarious encounters. David Hasselhoff also makes a memorable appearance as himself, playing a fictionalized version of himself who is hired by Chet to be the park's celebrity lifeguard.
Despite the film's low budget and mixed reviews, Piranha 3DD delivers on its promise of over-the-top gore and humor, with the addition of the water park setting creating even more opportunities for creative kills and ridiculous scenarios. The cast, led by Panabaker and Rhames, are clearly having fun with the material and elevate the movie beyond its B-movie roots. Fans of horror-comedies will find a lot to enjoy in Piranha 3DD.
Piranha 3DD is a 2012 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 23 minutes. It has received poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 3.8 and a MetaScore of 24.
