Picture Day is a coming-of-age movie set against the backdrop of high school life. The film was directed by Kate Melville and was released in 2012. The story centers around the character of Claire, played by Tatiana Maslany, a high school senior who has failed to graduate on time because of her low grades. Claire is intelligent, but she is also apathetic towards her academic performance and seems to have a carefree attitude.

The movie begins with Claire being forced to attend summer school to make up for the classes she failed. Claire is not keen on the idea, but has no choice. She is devastated when she discovers that her enrolment in summer school is due to the fact that she will be forced to repeat her final year of school the following year.

During her summer school classes, Claire reconnects with an old friend, Henry, played by Spencer Van Wyck. Henry is also repeating his final year, but unlike Claire, he seems to be more focused and determined to graduate this time around. As they reconnect, Claire starts to realize that she has feelings for Henry, but like with everything else in her life, she is reluctant to act on them.

Meanwhile, Claire's mother is in a semi-permanent state of self-medication, and her father is entirely absent from her life. Her immediate family includes her mother and her mother's boyfriend, Jim, whom Claire detests.

As the story progresses, we see Claire navigate her way through the ups and downs of high school life. She becomes reacquainted with a former teacher, Mr. Stinson, played by Steven McCarthy. Mr. Stinson is an unconventional teacher who brings out the best in Claire, both academically and personally. In one notable scene, he assists Claire in creating a band poster for her friend's band, which is performed against an EDM-heavy soundtrack.

Picture Day is a realistic portrayal of teenage life, with all its highs and lows. It deals with topics such as friendship, heartbreak, and the difficulty of making choices that will shape your future. It is a heartwarming and entertaining movie with a great cast, excellent soundtrack and an honest portrayal of teenage life.

The movie is character-driven, with Tatiana Maslany delivering a captivating performance as the main character, Claire. Her performance captures the essence of what it means to be a teenager, struggling to find one's place in the world. Her subtle expressions, body language, and the way she delivers her lines makes the audience empathize with her, and share her hopes and fears.

The movie also features an outstanding performance from Spencer Van Wyck, who plays the love interest, Henry. He is the opposite of Claire: focused, driven, and determined to graduate. He provides an excellent balance to Claire's character, and the chemistry between the two makes the story engaging.

Steven McCarthy's portrayal of Mr. Stinson, a teacher who genuinely cares for his students, is another standout performance. His character has a significant impact on Claire's life and acts as a mentor to her.

The movie's soundtrack is an eclectic mix of electronic and indie rock music, representing the tastes of modern high school students. The soundtrack contributes to the movie's overall vibe and helps to create the feeling of a vibrant, youthful world.

Overall, Picture Day is a well-made film that will appeal to anyone who remembers their own high school experiences. The characters feel real and relatable, the story is engaging, and the performances are outstanding. The movie leaves you with a feeling of hope for the future and a sense of nostalgia for the past, making it a must-watch movie.
