Eli Wurman is a powerful press agent who finds himself skidding into a very public scandal. After bailing Jilli—the girlfriend of one of his biggest clients—out of jail, she takes Wurman to an opium den, where she reveals that she has recordings of public figures involved in deviant behavior. Soon Victoria, who was married to Wurman's late brother, arrives in New York and urges him to leave the city and his career behind him while he still can.
