Pathe Jete Jete is a 1988 Bengali movie directed by Amal Ray Ghatak. The movie revolves around the central character, Shampa, played by Papiya Adhikari, who is a young woman struggling to break free from the societal norms and expectations placed upon her. Shampa is a bright and ambitious young woman who dreams of pursuing her education and making a name for herself. However, being born in a conservative Bengali family puts a lot of pressure on her to conform to the traditional roles assigned to women.

Despite her family's disapproval, Shampa decides to pursue her studies and begins attending college. However, her journey is not without its hurdles. She faces constant criticism and ridicule from her classmates and even some of her professors, who believe that women should not be pursuing higher education.

As Shampa persists in her studies, she also realizes that pursuing her dreams comes at a cost. She loses the support and affection of those closest to her, including her father and the man she loves, who are unable to accept her emancipated ideals.

The film highlights the double standards and prejudices that still persist in society towards women. It depicts the struggles and the sacrifices that women have to make to stand up for their beliefs and pursue their aspirations.

The movie has a talented cast that delivers powerful performances. Papiya Adhikari delivers an impressive portrayal of Shampa, lending a depth and complexity to the character. Lily Chakravarty shines as Shampa's mother, who is caught between her love for her daughter and her societal conditioning. Bodhisattva Mazumdar and Monu Mukherjee give fine performances as the two men in Shampa's life, who are unable to reconcile their love for her with her aspirations.

The movie's cinematography captures the beauty of the city of Kolkata, showcasing some of its iconic landmarks, including the Howrah Bridge and Victoria Memorial. The music, composed by Chandan Raychowdhury, is soulful and memorable, providing an emotional depth to the story.

Overall, Pathe Jete Jete is a beautifully crafted movie that explores the complexities of women's lives and the challenges they face in their quest for empowerment. It is a poignant reminder of the struggles and sacrifices that have been made by generations of women to break free from the shackles of patriarchy and create a more equitable society.
