Party Girl is a 1995 independent comedy film starring Parker Posey in the lead role of Mary, a young woman living in New York City who spends her days and nights immersed in the city's underground club scene. Mary's life is a blur of drugs, dancing, and partying, all driven by her deep love of the scene and the vibrant personalities that populate it.

As the film begins, Mary is working at a library, a job she hates, when she is arrested for hosting an illegal party in her apartment. Facing jail time and with no other options, Mary turns to her godmother Judy (Sasha von Scherler), a successful lawyer and former party girl herself, for help. Judy initially resists, but ultimately agrees to take Mary's case and begins to mentor her in the ways of adult responsibility.

As Mary attempts to turn her life around, she finds herself drawn to a kind, handsome Pakistani man named Mustafa (Omar Townsend), who offers her a window into a world that is both new and familiar. Mustafa takes Mary to meet his family, and introduces her to his traditional values and way of life. Mary is fascinated, both by Mustafa and by the challenge of reconciling her love of the party scene with her desire for something deeper and more meaningful.

Along the way, Mary is aided by a cast of colorful characters who populate the club scene, including drag performer The Lady Bunny, who offers Mary a job as a coat check girl at one of her shows, and her best friend Leo (Guillermo Díaz), a flamboyant fashion designer who supports her through her ups and downs.

As the film progresses, Mary begins to mature and take responsibility for her actions, but her journey is not without setbacks. She falls back into old habits, gets into trouble with the law again, and tests the patience of those who care about her. But even as she struggles, Mary is learning important lessons about what it means to be an adult, about the value of tradition and family, and about the power of strong relationships to help us through life's challenges.

Party Girl is a lively, colorful film that captures the energy and excitement of New York City's club scene in the mid-1990s. Parker Posey delivers a strong performance as Mary, capturing both the character's love of the party scene and her growing maturity and responsibility. The film also features strong supporting performances from Guillermo Díaz as Leo, Sasha von Scherler as Judy, and The Lady Bunny as herself.

At its core, Party Girl is a film about growing up and taking responsibility for our lives, even when it feels like the world is against us. It's a story about the importance of family and tradition, about the power of friendship, and about the joy of finding our place in the world.
