Parinati is a 1986 Bengali movie set in the Indian state of Bengal. Directed by Prabhat Roy, the movie stars Sandhya Roy, Subhendu Chatterjee, and Manoj Mitra in lead roles. The movie revolves around the themes of friendship, love, and family amidst the harsh realities of rural life. The story follows three childhood friends - Binu, Ratan, and Hari. The trio migrates to the city in search of better opportunities. However, their dreams are shattered, and they return to their village to lead a life of poverty. Binu, who dreams of marrying her lover, Bijoy, is dismayed to find out about his intention to marry another woman to rid himself of debt. Ratan, who is in love with Binu, is unaware of her feelings towards him. On the other hand, Hari, who is married, but childless, is dealing with societal pressures to father a child.

As the story progresses, the trio struggles to make ends meet. Ratan, who is employed as a labourer, falls severely ill and is bedridden for months. Binu and Hari take care of him, and Hari's wife also helps out. However, their finances are stretched, and they are forced to sell their belongings to get by. In the meantime, Bijoy's father visits Binu's house to ask for her hand in marriage on Bijoy's behalf. Binu's grandmother, who is unaware of Bijoy's intentions, agrees, and Binu is married off to him. Ratan, who is still ill, attends the wedding on a stretcher.

After the wedding, Binu and Bijoy return to the city, where she discovers that he is already married and has a child. Devastated, she returns to her village and takes up tailoring to support her family. Hari, who is desperate for a child, requests Binu to act as a surrogate. Binu agrees, and she is impregnated with Hari's child. However, her pregnancy is fraught with complications, and she passes away soon after giving birth to a son.

As the movie draws to a close, we see the trio's children playing together. Ratan, who was unaware of Binu's love for him, realizes his feelings for her too late.
