Paras is a 1971 Bollywood movie directed by C.P. Dixit and produced by N.N. Sippy. The movie is a sensitive portrayal of social issues that were prevalent in India during the 1970s, including casteism, poverty, and discrimination against lower classes. The movie stars Sanjeev Kumar as Rajkumar Singh, a young man from a lower caste who falls in love with a girl from an upper caste family, Shambhavi (played by Rakhee Gulzar). The two of them come from vastly different backgrounds, and their love is frowned upon by society. However, they are determined to fight for their love and overcome the societal norms that have been imposed upon them.
The movie also features Shatrughan Sinha in a supporting role as Panchu Babu, a local politician who is corrupt and manipulative.
The movie begins with Rajkumar, who lives in a small village, falling in love with Shambhavi, who comes from a wealthy family. They meet each other secretly and express their love, but their romance is short-lived. The father of Shambhavi finds out about their relationship and forcefully arranges her marriage with a man from her own caste.
Rajkumar is heartbroken and leaves his village in search of a better life. He ends up in the city and finds work as a laborer in a factory. Eventually, he saves enough money to start his own business, and he becomes a successful businessman.
Meanwhile, Shambhavi is not happy in her marriage and suffers from abuse at the hands of her husband. She meets Rajkumar again, and they rekindle their love. However, their relationship is threatened by the societal norms that still exist and by Panchu Babu, who uses his power to manipulate people and situations.
Paras tells the story of two individuals who are in love but are not allowed to be together due to the restrictions and prejudices of society. The movie also highlights the issue of discrimination against lower classes and how it affects their lives.
Sanjeev Kumar's performance as Rajkumar is exceptional. He portrays the character with subtlety and sensitivity, and the audience can feel the pain and struggles of his character. Rakhee Gulzar is also brilliant as Shambhavi, who is torn between her love and her duty to her family. Shatrughan Sinha's portrayal of Panchu Babu is also noteworthy, and he adds an element of tension and conflict to the narrative.
The movie is well-directed and captures the essence of rural India with its beautiful cinematography. The music by Kalyanji-Anandji is soulful and enhances the emotional impact of the movie.
Overall, Paras is a classic Bollywood movie that explores important social issues that were prevalent in India during the 1970s. It is a poignant love story that is still relevant today and will tug at the heartstrings of the audience.
