Valiyakaththu Moosa is an Indian resident who has travelled from his native land of Kerala to Karachi, Pakistan in search of a decent job during the time of British rule. After independence he returns back to his own home country, India and settles down in Malappuram in Kerala. He is denied the Indian passport and is constantly being harassed by policemen and the government officials. Moosa, the Indian Muslim is believed to be a Pakistani spy disguised as an Indian citizen. He completely loses his' freedom in the free land of India and is treated like a foreigner by his very own country people. Moosa is so much harassed by policemen that he is arrested many times and is asked to leave the country and go back to Pakistan. He is even escorted to the border and left there. Being a very aged man he has to suffer this daily torture on a routine basis.
Moosa handles this tough situation by bribing the policemen and then acquiring some kind of a stay permit which allows him to live in peace for a few days in his homeland. Moosa is approached by a young, aspiring journalist named Usha who promises to write a report on their helpless situation. He narrates his antagonizing tale along with his wife and helps Usha to form her report based on the shameful alienation of Indians by their own country people.
Moosa is not an exceptional case; Usha is also approached by similar cases, by people who are secretly leading a terrifying livelihood in their own country. They are being tortured and harassed by government officials in spite of becoming Indian citizens. They are brutally denied any kind of identity and nobody is ready to hear their suffering voices. Many aged, helpless people like Moosa fall into this category and they are fighting their own battles, losing money and living in terror.
