Pa-siyam is a 2004 Filipino horror film directed by Erik Matti, starring Roderick Paulate, Cherry Pie Picache, and Aubrey Miles. The film revolves around the death of the eldest son of a family and the traditional wake ritual they observe for nine nights. The story begins with the death of Pilar's (played by Cherry Pie Picache) eldest son, Mark. The family begins the traditional Pa-siyam wake, where they invite friends and relatives to stay with them, offer prayers, and serve meals for nine days. The wake is attended by a lot of visitors, including Father Ricardo (played by Roderick Paulate), who helps them complete the traditional religious rituals.

During the early stages of the wake, strange things start happening around the house. The family starts hearing unexplained noises, the food gets spoiled, and the family members begin to experience nightmares. They believe that it is the spirit of Mark haunting them and causing these disturbances. Despite being scared, the family decides to carry on with the wake until its end.

As the days go by, however, the disturbances become more frequent and terrifying. Pilar starts to have vivid nightmares about her son and wakes up covered in sweat. Her husband, Gerry (played by Carlos Morales), is consumed with his grief and is distant from everyone around him.

Father Ricardo suspects that something evil is lurking inside their house, and he tries to banish it using traditional Catholic exorcism methods. But despite his efforts, the strange occurrences continue. The family starts to hear strange whispers, and their personal belongings go missing. They become increasingly paranoid and fear for their lives.

The climax of the movie occurs on the final night of the Pa-siyam wake, where the family discovers the shocking truth about Mark's death. The revelation leaves them in shock and disbelief, and they realize that the evil that has been plaguing them is far more sinister than they could ever have imagined.

Overall, Pa-siyam is a well-executed horror film that takes a unique approach to the traditional wake ritual. The film is buoyed by strong performances from its lead cast, particularly Cherry Pie Picache, who is excellent as a grieving mother struggling to keep her family together. The movie's scares are effective, relying more on building tension and atmosphere rather than jump scares. The cinematography is also noteworthy, employing a lot of tight framing and dimly-lit spaces to make the audience feel claustrophobic and trapped in the same way as the characters.

Pa-siyam is a 2004 mystery with a runtime of 1 hour and 46 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.0.
