Outback is a 2019 Australian thriller movie that is directed and co-written by Mike Green. The movie stars Lauren Lofberg, Taylor Wiese, and Brendan Donoghue, and takes place in the Australian desert. The film follows American couple Wade (Brendan Donoghue) and Lisa (Lauren Lofberg) who are on a camping trip in the Australian outback, with their friend Rob (Taylor Wiese) joining them. After a series of mishaps, the group becomes stranded in the desert without any water or food. They decide to trek through the desert to reach a nearby town, but soon realize they are lost, and the already brutal conditions are made worse by the blazing sun.

As they struggle to find help, they come across an abandoned car and a young Aboriginal man named David (Kym Cramp), who is in dire need of medical attention. With David's help, they discover water and begin to make their way towards civilization. However, things take a turn for the worse when they realize they are being stalked by a large, predatory animal that is determined to kill them.

One of the strongest aspects of Outback is its cinematography, which captures the harsh beauty of the Australian desert. The environments are breathtaking in their scope and detail, and the film uses the cinematography to build a sense of isolation and desperation. The sound design is also impressive, with every rustle in the bushes or snap of a twig creating suspense and tension.

The actors deliver strong performances, with Lauren Lofberg impressing in her role as Lisa, who becomes the de facto leader of the group as they try to survive the harsh conditions of the desert. Brendan Donoghue is convincing as the American husband who becomes increasingly desperate as the situation becomes worse, and Taylor Wiese is solid as the slightly clueless friend who adds a touch of humor to the proceedings.

The film is not without its flaws, however. The pacing can be slow at times, with some scenes feeling aimless and not contributing to the overall narrative. Additionally, some of the character motivations feel implausible, particularly towards the end of the film.

Overall, Outback is a solid thriller that delivers on its promise of suspense and danger. Its strong cinematography and sound design help to create a truly immersive experience, and the performances are strong enough to carry the narrative even in slower moments. While it may not reinvent the wheel when it comes to survival horror films, it is a worthy addition to the genre and an enjoyable watch for fans of the genre.

Outback is a 2020 thriller with a runtime of 1 hour and 26 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.0.
