Other Plans is a 2014 romantic comedy film directed by Joe Eckardt, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Jeremy Fels. The film stars Jamie Kennedy, Rebecca Blumhagen, and Malik Yoba. It follows the story of a failed entrepreneur, Charlie (Jamie Kennedy), who realizes his dream girl is about to marry his best friend in a few days. He sets out to destroy the relationship and win her over.
The movie begins with Charlie living in his sister's basement, struggling with his business venture, an organic food truck. His life takes a turn when he bumps into his dream girl, Alex (Rebecca Blumhagen), in a coffee shop. They hit it off immediately and spend the day together, but Alex soon reveals that she is engaged to Charlie's friend, Ben (Malik Yoba), and the wedding is only days away.
Charlie refuses to accept this and devises a plan to win over Alex, even if it means sabotaging the wedding. He enlists the help of his two best friends, Julian (Chico Bean) and Rick (Adam Minarovich), to assist in his mission. They set out to cause chaos at the wedding, but soon Charlie begins to have second thoughts when he realizes the depth of Ben and Alex's love.
Along the way, Charlie also reconnects with his ex-girlfriend, Julia (Katie Savoy), who he left to pursue his dreams. She has since become successful and is engaged to a successful businessman, Greg (Josh Brodis). Charlie must decide if he truly wants Alex or if he should give his relationship with Julia another chance.
Other Plans is a light-hearted comedy with a few moments of sincerity. The film's plot is predictable, but the film makes up for it in the chemistry between the actors. Jamie Kennedy shines as the lovable but misguided Charlie, and Rebecca Blumhagen is charming as his love interest. Malik Yoba brings a level of maturity to his role as Ben, and Chico Bean and Adam Minarovich provide comedic relief as Charlie's best friends.
The film also touches on the theme of chasing your dreams and the sacrifices that come with it. Charlie abandoned his relationship with Julia to pursue his entrepreneurial dreams, but in the end, he realizes that his dreams were meaningless without true love. The film doesn't necessarily explore this theme in depth, but it's a nice touch to an otherwise predictable plot.
One of the highlights of the film is its soundtrack, which features songs from well-known artists such as The Flaming Lips and The Black Keys. The soundtrack adds another layer of fun and energy to the film, and the songs are well-placed in each scene.
Overall, Other Plans is a fun, lighthearted romantic comedy that doesn't take itself too seriously. While the plot may be predictable, the chemistry between the actors and the film's soundtrack make it an enjoyable watch. It's not a groundbreaking film, but it's a great way to spend a lazy weekend afternoon.
Other Plans is a 2015 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 27 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.4.
