Based on the novel "Bull's-Eye" by Richard Gordon, Operation Bullshine is a classic 1950s British comedy film directed by Gilbert Gunn. The movie tells the story of a group of British soldiers who are assigned to take on a crucial mission during World War II. Set in Germany in 1944, the film follows the exploits of a group of British soldiers who are tasked with infiltrating a German village, posing as a cinema crew, in order to investigate an armored division stationed there. The leader of the group is Captain Pilkington (Donald Sinden), a highly-skilled soldier who is accompanied by a group of misfits and troublemakers.

The rest of the team is made up of Sgt. Sutton (William Hartnell), a gruff veteran soldier who is initially skeptical of the mission, but eventually comes around; Private 'Taffy' Evans (Reginald Beckwith), a Welshman who is always looking for a chance to show off his rugby skills; Private Llewelyn (Thorley Walters), a cultured soldier who knows his Shakespeare; and Private 'W. E.' Brown (Melvyn Hayes), an apprentice jockey who is also a talented horse whisperer.

As the team arrives in the village, they must overcome a number of obstacles, including local German resistance fighters and rigid Nazi officials. Throughout the film, the soldiers engage in a number of comedic mishaps and antics, as they struggle to maintain their cover as a cinema crew while also gathering vital intelligence about the German division.

With a blend of slapstick humor and clever wit, the film presents an engaging and entertaining story, full of memorable characters and amusing moments. Among the highlights are Pilkington's struggle to keep his team in line, Evans' attempts to impress the local German girls with his rugby skills, and Llewelyn's dramatic recitation of Shakespeare to some local children.

The film's climax sees the soldiers attempting to escape the village while pursued by German forces, leading to a thrilling and suspenseful chase sequence that showcases the team's bravery and resourcefulness.

Overall, Operation Bullshine is a fun and lighthearted film that captures the spirit of classic British comedy, set against the backdrop of World War II. With a talented cast, engaging storyline, and plenty of comedic moments, it remains a beloved classic of the genre, offering a charming and entertaining slice of British cinema history.
