OK Connery (also known as Operation Kid Brother) is a 1967 Italian action/spy film directed by Alberto De Martino. The movie stars Neil Connery (Sean Connery's younger brother) as Dr. Neil Connery, a plastic surgeon and Scottish secret agent tasked with tracking down an evil criminal organization. The film was marketed as a James Bond spoof and features a host of familiar Bond film actors, including Daniela Bianchi (From Russia with Love), Bernard Lee (who played M in several Bond films) and Adolfo Celi (Thunderball).
The plot of OK Connery revolves around a group of international criminals who are planning to take over the world using a mind-controlling device called the "alpha project". Dr. Connery, who is also an expert in plastic surgery, is recruited by MI6 to infiltrate the organization and stop them before it's too late. Along the way, he's assisted by Maya (played by Bianchi), a beautiful spy who he quickly falls for.
As Dr. Connery delves deeper into the organization, he discovers various members of the criminal gang have had plastic surgery to disguise their identity. This creates some tense moments as he tries to figure out who's who and ultimately bring down the organization.
The action scenes in OK Connery are somewhat dated by modern standards, but they are still entertaining to watch. There are several fistfights, car chases, and even a boat chase scene that ends in explosive fashion. There's also some great high-tech gadgetry on display, including a wristwatch with a built-in cable cutter and a miniature camera.
The chemistry between Neil Connery and Daniela Bianchi is one of the highlights of the movie. They have a playful banter back and forth and their characters have some sexy romantic moments. The film takes full advantage of Bianchi's beauty, showcasing her in various skimpy outfits and tight dresses.
One of the most memorable performances in the film is Adolfo Celi as the villainous Mr. Thayer. Celi had previously played Largo in the James Bond film Thunderball, and he brings a similar level of suave menace to his role here. Thayer is a ruthless criminal mastermind who will stop at nothing to achieve his goals.
The production values of OK Connery are decent, with some nice location shooting in both England and Italy. The score of the film, composed by Ennio Morricone, is also quite good, featuring a memorable main theme as well as some catchy jazz-infused tracks.
Overall, OK Connery is a fun action/spy movie that is worth watching for fans of the genre. Although it's not the most polished film, it has a certain charm that makes it endearing. Additionally, the numerous nods to the James Bond films make it a must-see for Bond aficionados.
