No Eres Tu, Soy Yo is a romantic comedy about a hapless young man whose fiancee tells him that she loves another person. After planning a wedding for months, he must now start his life over again. No Eres Tu, Soy Yo opens with a young couple making wedding preparations. Javier, the main character, is deeply in love with his fiancee. They live together. They bought an apartment and a car together. Their families both know and love each of them. Everyone is excitedly preparing for the big day.

Then, as Javier awaits to escort his bride to the honeymoon, she disappears. After saying "yes," at the altar, his bride is nowhere to be found. Embarrassed, Javier attempts to conclude the wedding by himself, but it brings on much confusion. A week later, he receives a message from his wife saying she never loved him and, in fact, had always been in love with his friend.

Dejected, Javier consults his psychotherapist who claims these issues bring up something much deeper and older within Javier's psyche. However, the psychotherapist offers no words of comfort or a solution. Desperate to relieve himself of a broken heart, Javier plunges into the world of the esoteric. He experiments with alternative therapies and consults tarot card readers and psychics. He meets with friends, who are put off by the depth of his depression. Not long after his momentous wedding, Javier finds himself completely alone.

Then, Javier begins to contact ex-girlfriends and begins sleeping with each of them, but this does not help him with his depression. In fact, he learns unsavory things about his own character and begins to reflect on how he contributed to the situation. What was once depression now reaches despair. Javier decides to go on a long adventure by himself, a vision quest, to see if he can learn to love again. Ultimately, he finds love.
