Nightlight is a 2015 horror movie directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods. The film follows a group of high-school friends who decide to explore the abandoned Weston State Hospital, a psychiatric facility where one of their classmates committed suicide. However, their fun adventure turns into a nightmare as they discover that the hospital is haunted by an evil entity that feeds on fear.

The film starts with a group of six teenagers, five of whom are close friends from high-school, gathering in the woods to play Nightlight, a game where they explore abandoned places at night. The friends include Ben (Carter Jenkins), Robin (Shelby Young), Chris (Mitch Hewer), Nia (Taylor Murphy), and Amelia (Chloe Bridges). They decide to visit the Weston State Hospital, which has been abandoned for years and is rumored to be haunted.

As they enter the hospital, they discover that the power is out, and they must rely on their flashlights to navigate through the dark hallways. The friends soon split up to explore different parts of the hospital. However, things start to go wrong when they hear strange noises and see shadows moving. They quickly realize that they are not alone and that something malevolent is stalking them.

Ben, who is the most level-headed of the group, tries to keep everyone calm and rationalize the incidents, but it becomes increasingly difficult as the group becomes more and more terrified. Audrey (Iris Rezende), the sixth member of the group who is not friends with the others, joins the group after getting lost in the hospital.

As the night progresses, the friends begin to experience horrifying hallucinations and visions, which add to their fear. They discover that the entity that is haunting them feeds on fear and that they must find a way to escape before they become its next victims.

Nightlight is a found-footage horror movie that makes effective use of the dark, claustrophobic setting of the abandoned hospital. The film relies heavily on suspense and tension-building, and the fear is palpable throughout. The acting is solid, especially from Shelby Young and Carter Jenkins, who carry most of the movie's emotional weight.

The film's pacing is slow in the beginning, as it takes time to establish the characters and their relationships before plunging them into the horror. However, once the terror begins, the film becomes an edge-of-your-seat ride that keeps you guessing until the end.

One of the film's strengths is its use of sound design to create an eerie atmosphere. The sound of footsteps, doors creaking, and whispers adds to the sense of dread and isolation. The filmmakers also use light and darkness to great effect, making the audience question what is real and what is just a trick of the mind.

Nightlight's cinematography is also impressive, with the camera work adding to the unsettling feeling that something is always watching the characters. The found-footage style may be off-putting for some viewers, but it adds to the realism and intensity of the horror.

The film's ending is not a typical horror movie ending and may divide audiences. However, it is a fitting conclusion to the story and leaves the audience with a sense of unease.

Overall, Nightlight is a well-crafted horror movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It's not for the faint of heart, but horror fans will appreciate its use of suspense, tension, and jumpscares. The film also has an emotional core that makes you care about the characters, adding to the horror when they are in danger.

Nightlight is a 2015 thriller with a runtime of 1 hour and 25 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.4 and a MetaScore of 27.
