Neighbors is about Earl Keese, a mild-mannered man who lives in a bland suburban home with his wife Enid and daughter Elaine. Earl has gotten settled into his life and has worked himself into a rut. Things start to change when Vic and Ramona move in next door. Vic and Ramona are a bit younger than Earl and Enid and seem to have more outgoing personalities.
Almost immediately after they move in, Vic and Ramona impose themselves on their neighbors, which irritates Earl. Vic is loud and obnoxious, the exact kind of neighbor Earl does not want to mess up his drab life. On top of that, Ramona is a sly, sexy younger woman who makes Earl extremely uncomfortable.
Earl repeatedly tries to blame incidents around the neighborhood on Vic and Ramona but he can never seem to catch them in the act. He has no idea how to interact with the couple and it drives him to a breaking point.
Ultimately, the rivalry between Earl's family and Vic's family builds to a climatic showdown that offers plenty of chaos and emotional revelations that change the course of everyone's lives. Earl is forced to confront all of the issues he has with Vic and Ramona and must decide if doing battle with them is worth all of the effort.
Neighbors take a close look at the frustrations of those living in suburbia and how the slightest change in a person's life can have a huge impact. Earl is not particularly thrilled with how things are going in his life, but initially does not see the way Vic and Ramona live as a viable alternative.
There are few things that can turn a person's world completely upside down. Sometimes, these extremes are a good thing, as they can force a person like Earl to take a good, hard look at his existence and decide what is truly best for him.
Neighbors is a 1981 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 34 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.5 and a MetaScore of 47.
