Sunita is a selfless young woman who always puts others ahead of herself. She lives with, and takes care of, her elderly mother and older sister, Uma. Despite being old enough for marriage, Uma's handicap scares away prospective suitors. Her situation is so bad that at one point, Uma attempts suicide, only to be saved at the last moment by her younger sister. Sunita sacrifices her own needs and happiness to take care of the women in her life. But Sunita cannot provide for her sister's special needs alone. Her best friend, Asha, sees to it that Uma receives the money she needs to cure her crippling disease.

Asha is head over heels in love with Ashok. There is only one problem; her father, a renowned and respected judge, has promised her hand in marriage to his best friend's son, Suresh. When Asha's best friend Sunita finds out, the two of them concoct a devious plan.

Asha's dilemma is a common one. Marrying Suresh will surely bring honor and prestige to her family but at great personal cost. If Asha refuses Suresh's hand, great humiliation will befall her family. She decides that if she cannot turn down Suresh, then maybe she can convince Suresh to cancel the engagement. If Suresh backs out, Asha will be free to spend the rest of her life with Ashok.

To protect Asha's honor, Sunita agrees to take on her greatest role. Impersonate her best friend at the couple's first meeting so that Suresh will cancel the upcoming marriage. Sunita gets more than she bargains for when she must sacrifice her love life and everything she holds dear to pull off this fantastic ruse. In a world where family honor and prestige mean everything, Sunita and her beautiful friend Asha dream of lives beyond their families expectations.
