Murder, She Said is a 1961 British mystery-comedy film directed by George Pollock and starring Margaret Rutherford as Agatha Christie's amateur detective Miss Marple. The film is based on Christie's 1957 novel 4.50 from Paddington. The story centers around Miss Marple, a nosy elderly woman, who witnesses a murder on a train that passes alongside her own. When the police dismiss her report as a delusion, Miss Marple decides to take matters into her own hands and begins to investigate. Her sharp wit and attention to detail lead her to the wealthy Crackenthorpe family, who live in a sprawling estate known as Rutherford Hall.

Upon arriving at Rutherford Hall, Miss Marple poses as a housekeeper and infiltrates the family's inner circle. She quickly discovers that the family members are all a rather peculiar bunch. Old Mr. Crackenthorpe hates his children but dotes on his granddaughter, while his son Cedric is a philandering playboy who is engaged to an American actress. Young Harold, who is mentally unstable, and his mother Emma are constantly being threatened by other family members for their inheritance. There's also an artist named Alexander who contributes little to the plot, but provides several comedic moments throughout the film.

As Miss Marple continues to investigate, she uncovers a web of lies, secrets and hidden agendas. She realizes that everyone has a motive for murder and must race against time before another victim is claimed.

Margaret Rutherford delivers a stellar performance as Miss Marple, bringing the character to life with her endearing quirkiness and impeccable timing. Her comedic timing and wit add a lightheartedness to the otherwise dark storyline. The supporting cast, namely Arthur Kennedy as Inspector Craddock and Muriel Pavlow as the American actress, also deliver solid performances.

The movie's score, composed by Muir Mathieson, adds to the suspenseful atmosphere and heightens the tension throughout the film. Additionally, the sets and costumes are elaborate and historically accurate, transporting the audience back in time to 1950s England.

Overall, Murder, She Said is a delightful film that combines humor, suspense, and drama in perfect proportion. Christie's intricate plot is faithfully reproduced on the screen and the ending will leave viewers satisfied. Fans of the Miss Marple series, as well as those who enjoy classic mystery films, will undoubtedly enjoy Murder, She Said.
