Mummy Reborn is a 2019 British horror movie directed by Dan Allen, and starring Tiffany-Ellen Robinson, Victor Toth, and Chris Kaye. The story is about a group of teenagers who break into an antique store in search of valuable treasures. They find a mysterious Egyptian artifact and accidentally awaken a cursed mummy who starts hunting them down one by one. The only thing they can do to survive is to find a way to put the mummy back to sleep.
The movie starts with a prologue set in ancient Egypt, where a young princess is sacrificed to bring forth the god Anubis. The scene establishes the mythology of the movie and explains the curse that will be the driving force of the plot.
Cut to the present day, and we meet our protagonist, Tina (Tiffany-Ellen Robinson), a teenage girl who is struggling to fit in at school and has a strained relationship with her father. Her best friend, Karen (Rita Siddiqui), invites her to join a group of friends in breaking into an antique store owned by Karen's uncle, in search of valuable items to sell.
The group consists of five members: the leader, Zak (Victor Toth), who is also Karen's boyfriend; the muscle, Jason (Georgia Wood); the quirky hacker, Doug (Charlene Durrant); and the shy, nerdy, and crush-worthy Chris (Chris Kaye).
As they search the store, they find the mysterious Egyptian artifact that unleashes the curse upon them. From here on, the movie becomes a cat and mouse game, with the mummy hunting down the teenagers one by one.
The mummy in this movie is a classic monster, with bandages covering its entire body, and glowing eyes that see everything. The special effects are decent, considering the low budget of the movie. The set design and cinematography are excellent, effectively creating a creepy and claustrophobic atmosphere.
The performances are okay, with Tiffany-Ellen Robinson giving a solid performance as the protagonist, Tina. Chris Kaye also stands out as the awkward Chris, who harbors a crush for Tina. The other members of the cast are adequate, but they aren't given much to do except to be chased and scream.
The story is straightforward and predictable, with no surprises or twists. It follows the typical horror movie formula, with a group of teenagers being hunted down by a supernatural force. The pacing is fast, with action-packed scenes interspersed with moments of suspense and dread. However, there are some scenes that drag on for too long, and the movie could have benefited from some tighter editing.
Overall, Mummy Reborn is an entertaining horror movie that doesn't require much brainpower to enjoy. It's a perfect movie to watch on a lazy Sunday afternoon with friends, as long as you don't expect anything groundbreaking or original.
