MST3K: City Limits is a science-fiction film released in 1985. The film revolves around a group of teenagers who grew up in a post-apocalyptic world where adults have all died due to a mysterious disease. The teenagers are left to fend for themselves and live in gangs that roam around the ruins of society. The movie starts with a group of teenagers who are part of a gang called the "Daytimers". They are led by a young man named Lee. Lee is a talented mechanic who is trying to restore an old car they found, but they need fuel to start it. They discover that there is an area of the city where a group of teenagers who claim to be "The Aryan Supremacy" have plenty of fuel, so they decide to go and steal it.
During their raid, they cross paths with "The Clippers," another gang of teenagers led by "Ogre." The two groups start a fight that is interrupted by the sudden arrival of an armored vehicle with men dressed in black riding it. The men capture one of the Daytimers, and the rest of the gang decides to rescue him. They sneak into the enemy's base while they're asleep, but the task is not as simple as they thought, and they end up captured.
The teenagers are taken to the "City Limits," the area where the surviving adults have set a new city. The leader of the adults is a man named "Albert." The survivors from the pre-apocalyptic days have built a new civilization but have turned into ruthless dictators who rule with an iron fist. They see the teenagers as a threat to their rule and decide to execute them.
Luckily for the teenagers, they manage to escape, but now they have to deal with the adults who want them dead.
MST3K: City Limits is a bizarre film that mixes science-fiction and teen drama in a weird way. Although the film is not known for its quality, it has some interesting ideas and themes. The post-apocalyptic society depicted in the movie is reminiscent of other movies from the 80s like "The Road Warrior" and "Escape from New York," but the film fails to deliver the same level of entertainment.
The film's production quality is low, with an obvious lack of budget and a rushed feeling to the movie. The acting is subpar, and the script lacks coherence. The film tries to add some social commentary to the mix but fails to connect with the audience. The dialogues are often cringe-worthy, and the characters are not well developed.
MST3K: City Limits is a perfect candidate for the Mystery Science Theater 3000 treatment. The film is so bad that it becomes hilarious when watched with the comments provided by the show's cast. The riffing brings the film to life, adding witty jokes and hilarious skits that make even the most unbearable scenes in the movie enjoyable.
The MST3K version of the film features Joel Hodgson, Trace Beaulieu, and Jim Mallon as the main cast. The trio brings their unique personalities to the show, making the experience even more enjoyable for the viewers. Joel Hodgson, the show's creator, is in top form, delivering jokes with his usual deadpan style. Trace Beaulieu, who played the "Mad Scientist" in the original show, provides some of the best jokes of the episode, while Jim Mallon delivers some hilarious skits.
Overall, MST3K: City Limits is not a good film, but it is a great addition to the Mystery Science Theater 3000 library. If you're a fan of the show, this episode is a must-watch. The jokes are on point, and the cast is having a blast making fun of the movie. The film may be forgettable on its own, but the MST3K experience turns it into a classic of the genre.
