Morons from Outer Space is a British comedy film from 1985 that tells the story of four dim-witted aliens who end up on Earth, causing all sorts of chaos and hilarity along the way. The film stars Mel Smith and Griff Rhys Jones, two well-known comedians in the UK, alongside Joanne Pearce and James B. Sikking. The film begins with a group of aliens on their way to a new planet to start a new life. However, due to an accident, they crash land on Earth instead. The four aliens, Brian (Mel Smith), Desmond (Griff Rhys Jones), Sandra (Joanne Pearce), and Julian (Paul Bown), are discovered by a government agency and soon become the subjects of experimentation.
The film is full of slapstick humor and absurdist scenarios that play off of the four aliens' ignorance of Earth customs and culture. For example, in one scene, the aliens go to a fast food restaurant and order a "dead thing between two buns", not understanding that they are ordering a hamburger. Another scene sees the aliens trying to use a payphone, not understanding how it works and accidentally calling the White House.
As the aliens try to navigate Earth and learn about its customs, they also begin to develop relationships with the humans they encounter. Sandra becomes enamored with a handsome doctor (James B. Sikking) who takes an interest in her and treats her kindly, while Brian develops a close friendship with a meek scientist who becomes fascinated with the aliens.
However, things take a dark turn when the government agency in charge of the aliens' welfare decides to use them as a weapon against the Soviet Union. The aliens are fitted with special suits that give them superhuman strength and ability, and they are sent on a mission to sabotage a Soviet missile launch. But when they discover the true purpose of their mission, they rebel and set out to find a way back home.
Overall, Morons from Outer Space is a light-hearted comedy that plays off of the classic "fish out of water" scenario. The film's humor is silly and over-the-top, but it never takes itself too seriously, making it a perfect watch for fans of absurdist comedy.
Morons from Outer Space is a 1985 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 31 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.5 and a MetaScore of 39.
