Mom's Got A Date With A Vampire is a fun, adventure-packed movie about a teenage boy named Adam who is forced to team up with his younger sister, Chelsea, to save their mother from a dangerous, blood-sucking vampire. This Disney Channel Original Movie was released in 2000 and is directed by Steve Boyum. At the beginning of the movie, we see Adam's mother, Lynette Hansen (played by Caroline Rhea), getting ready for a date with a man she met online. However, Adam and Chelsea are suspicious of the man and are convinced that he is actually a vampire. They enlist the help of a knowledgeable vampire hunter named Dimitri (played by Robert Carradine) to confirm their suspicions, and soon find out that their mother's date is actually a centuries-old vampire named Dimitri Denatos.
Dimitri is played by Charles Shaughnessy, who gives a convincing performance as a charming but sinister vampire. He uses his powers of seduction to convince Lynette to go on a midnight stroll with him, during which he plans to turn her into a vampire and make her his eternal companion. Adam and Chelsea, who have been trailing their mother and her date, come up with a plan to stop Dimitri and save their mother.
Matt O'Leary gives a great performance as Adam, the quick-thinking and resourceful teenager who is determined to save his family. He uses his knowledge of vampire lore (which he picked up from his favorite comic books) to help him in his quest. Laura Vandervoort plays his younger sister Chelsea, who is initially hesitant to believe her brother's wild theories about vampires, but soon becomes an integral part of the mission to save their mother.
Myles Jeffrey plays Tyler, Adam's best friend who helps him and Chelsea track down Dimitri. Tyler is an important character in the movie, providing a lot of the comic relief and helping the trio come up with some of their more audacious plans.
The movie is filled with suspenseful moments, as Adam, Chelsea, and Tyler try to outsmart Dimitri and his vampire minions. They go on a wild chase through the city, breaking into an indoor roller coaster and fighting off vampires at a Halloween party. The action-packed scenes keep the movie moving at a fast pace, and the special effects are impressive for a made-for-TV movie.
One of the strengths of Mom's Got A Date With A Vampire is the way it balances horror and comedy. The movie has some genuinely creepy moments, such as when the vampires attack Adam and Chelsea in the abandoned theme park, but there's also a lot of humor throughout the movie. The banter between Adam, Chelsea, and Tyler is great, and the characters all have distinct personalities that make them fun to watch.
Another great aspect of the movie is the positive message it sends about family. Despite their bickering, Adam and Chelsea care deeply for each other, and they're both willing to go to great lengths to save their mother. The movie emphasizes the importance of sticking together as a family and supporting each other, even in the face of danger.
Overall, Mom's Got A Date With A Vampire is a fun, lighthearted movie that is perfect for Halloween or any time you're in the mood for an adventure-filled romp. It's not the most groundbreaking movie, but it's a solid entry in the Disney Channel Original Movie canon and worth watching if you're a fan of vampire movies or family-friendly comedies.
