Mithai is a dark comedy released in 2019, directed by Prashant Kumar and starring Priyadarshi Pulikonda, Rahul Ramakrishna and Ravi Varma. The movie revolves around the lives of a group of misfits, who find themselves in a series of bizarre situations. The movie kicks off with an introduction to Siddhu (Priyadarshi) who is jobless and struggling to make ends meet. He is working as a pizza delivery boy but things take an unexpected turn when he finds a bag full of cash. The cash belongs to Mao (Ravi Varma) a local goon, who tells Siddhu to return the money if he wants to live.
Siddhu is at a crossroads and decides to spend the money instead of returning it. He buys an old Jeep, takes his friend Kittu (Rahul Ramakrishnan) and girlfriend (Kamal Kamaraju) on a road trip, where they have a crazy adventure. The trio throws caution to the wind and indulges in drugs, drinking, and partying.
However, things get out of hand when Mao sends his henchmen to get his money back. The movie takes a comedic turn when the trio tries to get away from the goons. How they try to save their lives from Mao's henchmen, forms the crux of the story.
The movie boasts some witty dialogues and strong performances from the lead actors. Priyadarshi who plays Siddhu pulls off a sincere performance with a hint of sarcasm. His friend Kittu played by Rahul Ramakrishnan, adds the necessary humor and delivers a sincere performance. Ravi Varma, who plays the antagonist, is impressive in his portrayal of Mao, and his screen presence adds to the intensity of the movie.
Apart from the lead cast, the supporting cast also delivers commendable performances. Saheba, played by Bhushan Kalyan, the henchman of Mao, is noteworthy. He has a significant role in the movie and elevates the mood with his comic timing.
The direction of Prashant Kumar deserves special mention as he manages to keep the audience engaged with his nuanced storytelling. The cinematography by Sai Sriram brings out the essence of the movie with its vivid and contrasting colors. The music by Vivek Sagar enhances the tone of the movie with its funky and peppy beats.
However, the movie does drag at times and some scenes seem to be stretched out, which can test the patience of the viewers. The movie also has a lot of drug references and adult humor, which might not be suitable for all audiences.
Overall, Mithai is a cleverly crafted dark comedy that can leave the audience amused and surprised at the same time. It is a rare movie that manages to deliver a message in a comical way. With its witty dialogues, strong performances and engaging screenplay, Mithai is a must-watch for anyone looking for a refreshing and entertaining watch.
