Mercy (2014) is a horror movie that follows the story of two brothers, George (Chandler Riggs) and Buddy (Joel Courtney), who visit their dying grandmother, Mercy (Shirley Knight), in a remote town. Their mother, Rebecca (Frances O'Connor), decides to take them there as a way to reconcile with her estranged mother and also to help her sons deal with their grandfather's recent death. However, Mercy seems to have some dark secrets that have been haunting her family for generations, and the boys' visit unleashes a series of supernatural events that threaten their lives and sanity.

The movie starts with a flashback to the 1960s, where a young Mercy (Danielle Parker) witnesses her father's suicide and learns about a curse that plagues her family. Her mother warns her that they are all doomed, and they have to live with the consequences of their ancestors' sins. From that point on, Mercy becomes the object of curiosity and fear in her small town, and her condition worsens with time.

Fast forward to present day, and Mercy is living alone in a decrepit house, which seems to have a life of its own. When Rebecca and her sons arrive, they are greeted by odd neighbors, strange occurrences, and a sense of impending doom. Buddy, who has a heart condition, is sensitive to the supernatural events, which become more frequent and intense as the days go by. George, on the other hand, is skeptical and tries to find rational explanations for everything. Meanwhile, Rebecca discovers old photographs and documents that reveal the sinister history of her family and the true nature of Mercy's illness.

As the family members start to unravel, they realize that they have to confront Mercy and put an end to the curse. Rebecca seeks the help of a local counselor who specializes in supernatural phenomena, while George and Buddy try to uncover the mystery of their grandfather's death. In a race against time, they must find a way to break the curse and save their lives before it's too late.

Mercy is a movie that combines elements of supernatural horror, family drama, and psychological thriller. The performances of the cast, especially Shirley Knight, who portrays the titular character, are outstanding and add depth to the story. Frances O'Connor delivers a convincing portrayal of a mother who struggles with her own past and her desire to protect her sons. Chandler Riggs, known for his role in The Walking Dead, brings a mature performance that shows his range as an actor.

The cinematography and production design contribute to the eerie atmosphere of the movie, with the dilapidated house, the misty woods, and the flickering lights creating a sense of isolation and fear. The music score by Reza Safinia adds to the tension and heightens the emotions of the characters.

Overall, Mercy is a well-crafted horror movie that offers a fresh take on the haunted house genre. The movie explores themes of family, regret, and redemption, while also delivering some genuine scares. While it may not be the scariest horror movie out there, it is definitely worth watching for its strong performances and engaging story.

Mercy is a 2014 thriller with a runtime of 1 hour and 19 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.9.
