Mental is a hilarious comedy-drama directed by PJ Hogan and released in 2012. The movie stars Toni Collette as Shirley Moochmore, a mentally unstable woman who is hired by a dysfunctional Australian family as their nanny. The patriarch of the family is Barry Moochmore, a stern and demanding man who is played by Anthony LaPaglia. The movie begins with Shirley spontaneously kidnapping one of the Moochmore children and taking him on a wild adventure across town. This event is the catalyst for the rest of the movie, which follows the Moochmore family as they try to find ways to deal with Shirley's antics and the other problems that are tearing their family apart.

As the Moochmore family struggles to come to terms with their own issues, they begin to bond with Shirley and realize that she may be the only person who can truly help them. With her unconventional methods and unconventional personality, Shirley shakes things up and helps the family to see things in a new light.

Throughout the movie, the performances of the actors are fantastic. Collette's portrayal of Shirley is both hilarious and heartbreaking, as she perfectly captures the quirks and complexities of this troubled character. LaPaglia is also excellent as the head of the Moochmore family, bringing a sense of depth and nuance to his portrayal of a man struggling to keep his family together.

In addition to the main cast, the film features a number of other well-known actors in smaller roles. Liev Schreiber plays the character of Trevor, a shark hunter who becomes involved with the Moochmore family. Caroline Goodall and Deborah Mailman also have significant roles in the film.

One of the most interesting aspects of Mental is its exploration of mental illness and the stigma that can be attached to it. The movie doesn't shy away from showing the difficulties that people with mental illness face, but it also shows that with the right support and understanding, people living with mental illness can lead full and happy lives.

As well as dealing with serious issues, Mental is also a riotously funny movie. The humor is often dark, but it is never cruel, and the movie manages to find the humor in even the most difficult situations. The result is a movie that is both thought-provoking and thoroughly entertaining.

Overall, Mental is a fantastic movie that is sure to appeal to audiences who enjoy a mixture of comedy and drama. With its fantastic cast, strong performances, and exploration of important social issues, it is a movie that will stay with viewers long after the credits have rolled.

Mental is a 2014 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 56 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.1 and a MetaScore of 42.
