Megalodon is a U.S. shark movie that takes place on an oil rig in the deep sea. Written by Stanley Isaacs and Gary J. Tunnicliffe, the movie was directed by Pat Corbitt. The film features Robin Sachs, Leighanne Littrell, Al Sapienza and Mark Sheppard. The story begins off the coast of Greenland in the North Atlantic. There is an advanced oil rig placed by Nexecon petroleum company, called Colossus. Because the rig is on fault lines, geologists around the globe are alarmed. The ocean floor could easily be disturbed by the drilling and the consequences catastrophic.
Christen Giddings is a journalist who has been invited by Peter Brazier, Nexecon CEO, so that the attempts of the company to address the geologist's concerns can be documented.
Jake Thompson, a cameraman will be recording the findings. The crew does not believe that anything untoward will occur. Brazier is hoping that the documented report will only reveal all of their safety precautions.
However, when they discover a very rich oil deposit, further drilling continues. Ruptures open a portal to another hidden ocean that has prehistoric life. The oil starts poisoning the water. Prehistoric animals are coming to the surface. There is a massive explosion, and the entire drilling system breaks down.
Engineers try to handle the situation, but a gigantic animal lurks nearby and shocks the crew. They do not know what it is but believe it is a whale.
As the creature closes in, the predator is revealed to be the most dangerous ocean animal ever, called the Carcharodon Megalodon shark. They struggle for control, but many fall in the attempt to survive.
They desperately attempt to stop the shark. It is lured by a small submarine. It overloads fuel tanks and causes an enormous explosion. The beast is finally killed. However, another Megalodon worms its way into the open waters below the boat that Christen Giddings is in, unbeknownst to him.
