This British comedy turns on a retired World War I general whose country won't permit him to actively participate in World War II because of his age. Feeling useless and despondent, he travels to his country estate contemplating suicide. Before he can say goodbye to the cruel world, six children are sent by the government to his estate to escape the London bombings. He puts off his suicidal ideas to deal with the chaos the children bring to his home. At age 11, Petula Clark was hand picked by the director of this film to play one of the children.
