'Mast' is a Bollywood romantic comedy movie that released in the year 1999. The film stars Aftab Shivdasani, Urmila Matondkar, and Dalip Tahil in lead roles. It marked the directorial debut of Ram Gopal Varma's assistant director, Ram Gopal Varma. The movie tells the story of a young man named Krishnakant AKA Kranti (Aftab Shivdasani). Kranti is a simple-minded and innocent boy who lives in a small village in Maharashtra. He is a misfit in his village because he is extremely scared of dogs. One day, he meets the beautiful and charming Roma (Urmila Matondkar). Roma is a city girl who has come to the village for a vacation. Kranti falls in love with Roma at first sight and tries to impress her with his innocence and simplicity. However, Roma is not interested in him.
Kranti's life takes a turn when his father dies suddenly. He is left with no money and no means to survive. Kranti decides to go to the city to try his luck and earn a living. In the city, Kranti meets D'Souza (Dalip Tahil), who is a smart and wealthy businessman. D'Souza likes Kranti's simplicity and innocence and decides to help him. He gets Kranti a job in his company and even arranges for him to stay in his house.
Kranti is happy to finally have a steady income and a roof over his head. However, his life takes another twist when he finds out that D'Souza is Roma's father. Kranti sees this as an opportunity to get closer to Roma and win her over. He starts pretending to be wealthy and sophisticated to impress Roma. Roma, who is initially hesitant, starts falling for Kranti's charm.
The movie features several light-hearted and funny moments when Kranti attempts to hide his true identity from Roma and her family. The story takes a dramatic turn when Kranti's past catches up with him. He is forced to reveal his true identity to Roma and her family.
The movie features several memorable songs that were popular during the late 90s. The music was composed by Sandeep Chowta and the lyrics were penned by Tejpal Kaur and Nitin Raikwar.
The performances in the movie are commendable. Aftab Shivdasani delivers a fine performance as the innocent and simple-minded Kranti.
