Manasu Malligey is a 2017 Indian Kannada language romantic drama film directed and written by S. Narayan. The movie stars Rinku Rajguru in the lead role, along with Nishanth. The movie is based on the Marathi movie Sairat. The movie revolves around the love story between Kalki, the daughter of a wealthy businessman and Jaanu, a college-going boy from a lower socio-economic background. They fall in love despite belonging to different casts, but their love story doesn't seem to be acceptable by their families and society. The movie portrays the struggle of the young couple to live their life in their own terms and fight against the conventional mentality of society.
Rinku Rajguru has given a brilliant performance as Kalki, who is naive and innocent but can stand firm on her decisions when it comes to choosing her partner. Her acting is natural and her expressions bring out the emotions of the character very well. Nishanth, on the other hand, has given a decent performance as Jaanu. He has portrayed the role of a college-going boy who loves Kalki with a lot of conviction.
The music and background score by Ajay-Atul add more charm to the movie. The songs have been beautifully picturized and add to the emotions portrayed in the movie. The tracks âSariyaagi Nenapideâ and âNeenu Iradeâ are the highlights of the movie.
The cinematography is done by Abhishek Kasargod, who has captured the beauty of Karnataka perfectly. The scenic locations and the set designs add to the overall appeal of the movie. The editing is done by S. Narayan himself, which could have been better.
Overall, Manasu Malligey is a heart-warming love story that brings out the emotions and struggles of young couples who dare to love beyond social constructs. The movie is a must-watch for people who love romantic dramas and appreciate good acting. The movie also portrays the reality of how society treats inter-caste love and how even youngsters who are educated can't live their life as per their wish.
The movie was released in 2017 and was well-received by the critics and the audience. It has been dubbed in multiple languages and has been remade in Telugu as âVijethaâ. It has won multiple awards including, SIIMA award for the Best Debut Actress â Kannada for Rinku Rajguru, and Best Music director for Ajay-Atul.
