This Chilean biographical drama movie was released in theaters in 2004. It is set in the year 1973 when then Chilean Socialist President Salvador Allende was on the verge of being overthrown by a military coup. The film follows a boy named Gonzalo Infante who comes from an upper middle class background. Under the new socialist policies, poor boys are brought into Gonzalo's Catholic preparatory school. Unlike most of his peers, Gonzalo does not bully or make fun of Pedro Machuca, a boy from the slums of Santiago that has been brought to his school. Instead he develops a deep friendship with the boy, as events around them bring the country into a civil war based on class differences.
