Maan Gaye Mughall-E-Azam is a 2008 Bollywood comedy film directed by Sanjay Chhel and produced by Ganesh Jain. It stars Mallika Sherawat, Rahul Bose, and Paresh Rawal in lead roles, while Kay Kay Menon, Pawan Malhotra, Zakir Hussain, and others play supporting characters. The film is a satirical take on the famous Bollywood classic Mughal-e-Azam, where the characters go behind the scenes of a theatrical production and play out their personal lives while rehearsing for the play. The story revolves around a theatre group in Delhi that is struggling to put up a play based on the iconic love story of Mughal-e-Azam. The characters are very different from each other, with varying temperaments and ways of approaching their work.
The director of the troupe, Ajit Talwar (Paresh Rawal), is an egotistical person who considers himself a great artist and forces his cast to follow his orders without any questions asked. His main actors are the flamboyant and whimsical Prem Kumar (Rahul Bose) and the naive and ambitious Raja (Rajpal Yadav). The leading lady of the play is an unknown actress, Shabnam (Mallika Sherawat), who is discovered by Prem on a train and is convinced by him to audition for the role of Anarkali. Shabnam, who is very poor, agrees to the offer and comes to Delhi to take part in the rehearsals.
As the rehearsals start, the actors encounter various problems with the script, the director, and each other. In the meantime, Shabnam starts to develop feelings for Prem, who is already in a relationship with his long-standing girlfriend, Sania (Jessica Alba). Raja, who is obsessed with Shabnam, also tries to woo her and becomes a source of trouble for the other actors. The production of the play is further complicated when a wealthy businessman, Bade Mia (Kay Kay Menon), decides to finance the play but insists on playing the role of Emperor Akbar. The cast is left with no other option but to agree to his terms.
As the play progresses, the actors have to deal with various challenges, including the erratic behavior of the director, the ego clashes between the actors, and the unexpected presence of Bade Mia. The situation becomes even more complicated when Ajit realizes that he has a serious illness and decides to cast himself in the role of Emperor Akbar, hoping to be remembered as the greatest artist of all time.
The film is a hilarious ensemble comedy that pokes fun at the Bollywood film industry, the theatre world, and the socio-economic divide in Indian society. The performances by Paresh Rawal, Rahul Bose, and Mallika Sherawat are standout, and the chemistry between the actors is very strong. The film also features cameos by a host of Bollywood stars, including Anil Kapoor, Ratan Jain, Rakhi Sawant, and Pankaj Kapoor, that add to the entertainment value.
Overall, Maan Gaye Mughall-E-Azam is a light-hearted and entertaining film that will leave you laughing and tapping your feet to its catchy tunes. It is a must-watch for anyone who loves comedy and satire and wants to experience a different take on the classic story of Mughal-e-Azam.
