Life After Beth is a 2014 horror comedy that stars Aubrey Plaza, Dane DeHaan, and John C. Reilly. The film is a creative look at the classic zombie movie trope, exploring what would happen if someone who had died and come back to life as a zombie was allowed to live amongst the living. The film begins with Zach (Dane DeHaan) mourning the loss of his girlfriend, Beth (Aubrey Plaza), who has recently died from a snake bite while out hiking. Zach is devastated, and he is having a hard time moving on with his life. However, his world is turned upside down when Beth suddenly returns from the dead without any memory of her death.

At first, Zach is ecstatic that Beth has returned, and he can't believe his luck. However, as Beth's behavior becomes increasingly erratic, Zach realizes that something isn't quite right. Beth starts to lose her temper easily and goes through mood swings that Zach can't understand. He later discovers that Beth is a zombie and is slowly starting to lose her grip on reality.

As the film progresses, Zach realizes that Beth's condition is contagious, and those who are bitten by her also become zombies. Chaos quickly ensues, and Zach is forced to fight for his life and the lives of those around him, all while trying to keep Beth's zombie status a secret from her parents (John C. Reilly and Molly Shannon).

At its core, Life After Beth is a dark comedy about the stages of grief, and how it's possible to get stuck in one phase and struggle to move on. Zach's struggle to process Beth's death is mirrored in Beth's struggle to come to terms with her zombie status, and the film does an excellent job of exploring this through its two main characters.

Aubrey Plaza delivers a standout performance as Beth, perfectly capturing the confusion and rage her character feels as she begins to transform. Meanwhile, Dane DeHaan brings a depth and vulnerability to Zach that makes him a relatable and sympathetic character.

The supporting cast also deserves praise, particularly John C. Reilly and Molly Shannon, who play Beth's grieving parents. They bring a sense of authenticity and heart to the film that helps balance out the more absurd and comedic elements of the movie.

The film's writing and direction, helmed by Jeff Baena, are also top-notch. Baena is able to balance the film's comedic and horror elements, creating a tone that feels wholly unique and engaging. His script crackles with wit and intelligence, and the film is full of memorable moments that will stick with viewers long after the credits roll.

Overall, Life After Beth is an excellent take on the zombie genre that explores themes of grief, love, and loss in a fresh and exciting way. The film's strong performances, excellent writing, and expert direction make it a must-watch for horror and comedy fans alike.

Life After Beth is a 2014 romance movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 30 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.7 and a MetaScore of 50.
