This Mexican drama, adapted from a Patricio Manns novel, recounts the 1907 struggle of miners working under adverse conditions in a small town in Chile. They revolt against the British owners of the mine, much to the displeasure of the Chilean government. Rather than have the dissatisfaction of the miners spread to other mining towns, causing multiple work stoppages, the government concocts a plan to destroy the entire town in order to quickly end the uprising.
