Lemon is a quirky and offbeat indie comedy-drama that explores the life of the neurotic and socially awkward Isaac, played by Brett Gelman. The film opens with Isaac in a Los Angeles acting class with several other aspiring actors, but it quickly becomes apparent that he is struggling to connect with the others and the material. He is also in a strained relationship with his girlfriend Ramona, played by Judy Greer, who is often distant and unresponsive to his attempts to connect with her.

As Isaac's life starts to unravel, he finds himself increasingly alienated from those around him, including his own family. His divorced parents are both living new lives, and his sister Alex, played by Inger Tudor, is a successful artist who seems to have everything going for her.

To make matters worse, Isaac's acting career is going nowhere, and he is forced to take on a job as a commercial actor for a questionable product. His frustrations and insecurities eventually come to a head at a family gathering, where he puts on a disastrous and deeply uncomfortable puppet show.

However, the film is not all gloom and doom. Lemon has a distinctive style and humor that keeps the film engaging and enjoyable to watch. Isaac's quirks and misfortunes are often played for laughs, but the film also has a surreal and dreamlike quality that adds depth to the story. The film is also loaded with subtler, more introspective moments that will resonate with anyone who has ever struggled with feeling like they don't fit in.

The cast of Lemon is excellent, with standout performances from Gelman and Greer. Gelman brings a great deal of depth and vulnerability to the character of Isaac, while Greer is fantastic as Ramona, the aloof and enigmatic love interest. Tudor's performance as Alex is also noteworthy, as she brings a surprising amount of warmth and humor to a character who could have easily been portrayed as cold and uncompromising.

In addition to its strong performances, Lemon also benefits from its stylized visuals and clever use of music. The film's color palette is muted and slightly desaturated, giving the entire film a melancholic and slightly surreal quality. The soundtrack is also excellent, with an eclectic mix of songs that range from classic soul to indie rock.

Overall, Lemon is a strange and quirky indie film that will not be for everyone. However, those who appreciate offbeat humor and introspective, character-driven storytelling are likely to find much to enjoy in this film. While it can be uncomfortable and awkward at times, Lemon ultimately offers a moving and heartfelt examination of what it means to feel out of place in the world.

Lemon is a 2017 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 23 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.8 and a MetaScore of 59.
