Law of the Range is a 1941 western movie directed by Lambert Hillyer and starring Johnny Mack Brown, Fuzzy Knight, and Nell O'Day. The film tells the story of a cowboy who intervenes in a dispute between two ranch owners over water rights. Johnny Mack Brown plays Joe, a cowboy who arrives at the town of Dry Wells to meet his father, who he hasn't seen in years. When he arrives, he finds out that his father was killed by a gang that is trying to take control of the water supply in the area. Joe decides to stay in Dry Wells and find out who is responsible for his father's death.

Meanwhile, two ranch owners, Sims and Brandon, are in a fierce dispute over water rights. Sims has the water well on his property, but Brandon's cattle need water too, and he is unwilling to pay Sims for access to it. The two men are on the verge of a violent confrontation, and Joe realizes that he needs to intervene before things get out of hand.

Joe tries to convince Sims and Brandon to work out a plan for sharing the water, but they both refuse. Joe then decides to take matters into his own hands and devises a plan to divert the water from Sims' well to a nearby creek where Brandon can access it. His plan works, and Brandon is able to water his cattle without having to pay Sims.

However, Sims is not pleased with Joe's interference and begins to suspect that Joe is in cahoots with Brandon. He tries to trap Joe and Brandon by convincing them to buy a fake water right, but Joe sees through his scheme and confronts Sims. In the ensuing struggle, Sims accidentally falls to his death down a well.

With Sims out of the picture, Joe and Brandon are able to work out a deal to share the water, and peace is restored to Dry Wells. However, Joe still wants to find out who is behind his father's murder, and he sets off to hunt down the gang responsible.

Law of the Range is a classic western movie that features all of the genre's familiar themes – honor, justice, and revenge. Johnny Mack Brown is charismatic and likable as the hero, and his chemistry with the rest of the cast is excellent. Fuzzy Knight provides comic relief as Joe's sidekick, while Nell O'Day is feisty and independent as Brandon's daughter.

The movie is also noteworthy for its spectacular scenery, showcasing the rugged beauty of the American west. The chase scenes are thrilling, and the gunfights are intense and well-staged. The score, composed by Albert Glasser, is also excellent, enhancing the film's emotional impact.

Overall, Law of the Range is a great movie for fans of classic westerns. Its timeless themes and solid performances make it a must-see for anyone who loves the genre.
