Last Passenger is a 2013 edge-of-your-seat thriller directed by Omid Nooshin, starring Dougray Scott, Kara Tointon, and Iddo Goldberg. The movie is set on a London-bound train that turns out to be the site of a terrifying ordeal for its passengers. The plot revolves around Lewis Shaler (Dougray Scott), a weary doctor traveling home on a busy commuter train. Shaler strikes up a conversation with Sarah (Kara Tointon), a single mother, who is also traveling with her son Max. Shaler makes his way to the dining car to get some refreshments, and upon returning to his seat, he begins to notice that something is off about the train. As the train approaches its final destination, Shaler realizes that the train conductor (played by David Schofield) has sinister intentions.
The situation on the train quickly deteriorates when the conductor locks the passengers and crew inside the train, controlling it from the outside. With no way out, Shaler must do everything in his power to save his fellow passengers and stop the train before it crashes.
Throughout the movie, tension builds up as the passengers become increasingly desperate to find a way out. The train ride becomes a cat and mouse game, with the conductor and the passengers battling for control of the train. The suspense is heightened by the claustrophobic confinement of the train carriages, with the characters trapped in a tight, twisting metal labyrinth.
The performances of the lead actors are excellent, with Dougray Scott giving a standout performance as the determined hero who refuses to give up. Scott portrays his character, Lewis Shaler, with both sympathy and determination. Despite his exhaustion and personal vulnerabilities, Shaler proves himself to be a capable hero with a heart of gold.
Kara Tointon also shines in her role as Sarah, portraying the character's fear and vulnerability with a subtle touch. Even as her character is forced to confront her deepest fears, Tointon never goes overboard, giving a nuanced and realistic performance.
Iddo Goldberg also makes a memorable impression as a somewhat mysterious geek who proves to be smarter and more resourceful than he initially appears.
The tension in the movie is heightened by the excellent use of music by composer Liam Bates, who imbues the movie with a sense of unease and dread. The director's choice to film the movie almost entirely on the train adds to the claustrophobia, and the use of tight framing and dim lighting serves to create a real sense of danger and tension.
Overall, Last Passenger is an excellent thriller that manages to keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. It is a gripping tale of survival against all odds and the lengths that ordinary people will go to save each other in the face of extreme danger. The movie is well worth a watch for anyone who loves a good suspenseful thriller.
