Max changes his bohemian lifestyle in a bid to find success and wealth as a writer in new York, after a number of years he returns to Paris and embarks on a relationship with Muriel. Max is haunted by his lost love, Lisa, who he thinks he sees on the streets of Paris and follows to her apartment. After breaking in and being discovered by the woman he believes to be Lisa, Max begins a relationship with the woman who seems to have a mysterious past that means she may not be all she seems.
