In 2005, "Land of the Dead" hit theaters with a spine-chilling vision of a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies. Directed by the horror master George A. Romero, who is credited with creating the zombie genre, the movie starred John Leguizamo, Asia Argento, and Simon Baker. Set years after a zombie outbreak has decimated the world's population, the film takes place in a fortified city called Fiddler's Green. This is the last remaining bastion of the living, ruled by ruthless businessman Kaufman (Dennis Hopper), who resides in an ivory tower while the lower classes live in squalor.

Riley (Simon Baker) is a former soldier who leads a group of scavengers outside the city's walls in search of supplies. Among them is Cholo DeMora (John Leguizamo), a freelance rogue who dreams of joining the city's elite. But when his plans are thwarted by Kaufman, Cholo decides to take revenge by attempting to hijack an armored vehicle known as Dead Reckoning – the only means of escape from the city.

Meanwhile, the zombies surrounding the city have begun to evolve. Led by a mysterious, intelligent zombie called Big Daddy, they are no longer the mindless, stumbling creatures of old. Instead, they have developed rudimentary forms of communication and organization, making them an even more formidable threat to the living.

As Cholo and his cohorts descend upon Fiddler's Green, Riley and his team must fend off both the mercenary group and the growing horde of intelligent zombies. Amidst the chaos and carnage, allegiances will be tested, loyalties will be betrayed, and the fate of humanity will hang in the balance.

"Land of the Dead" was praised for its inventive take on the zombie genre, with some critics calling it Romero's best work since the original "Night of the Living Dead." The film not only offers up the expected gore and scares, but also a biting commentary on social class and power structures. With its memorable characters, tense action, and provocative themes, "Land of the Dead" remains a must-see for horror fans and critics alike.

Land of the Dead is a 2005 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 33 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.2 and a MetaScore of 71.
