With absolute intention to freeze the soul with horror, the film of La Llorona, or The Crying, is based on the urban legend of a woman who murders her children and is doomed to wander the worlds for all eternity. The legend has it that he who hears the cries of La Llorona is marked by death. With wise relevance, film director René Cardona and an excellent cast of Spanish actors releases without a doubt one of the scariest horror movies that has ever been witnessed in the 60s. Filmed in black and white, the movie is targeted to trigger screams out of terror form the viewers.

There is a beautiful woman who betrays her people by becoming involved romantically with a Spanish conquistador from whom she conceives some children. She becomes a monster mother who murders all her children in order to be with her lover forever, but she's accused of treason and of being a blasphemer and subsequently sentenced to death, but before she dies La LLorona conjures a curse on all the descendants of those who accused her.

The film takes the viewer back in time to tell the harrowing tale of this legend and then sets in the present to show the terrifying story of horror and suspense when La Llorona shows up mysteriously at the door of a newlyweds family home.

The very first actress Maria Elena Marques, in the title role of La Llorona, convinces the viewer with a masterful performance. La Llorona now spends her time as a nanny in the home of a descendant of that one who punished and accused her once, now she comes back with a vengeance; she has come to murder their child.

The story is set in the location of Guanajuato, Mexico in present time. The arrival of a young couple to their family house will be full of horror for there is a curse on the family home from years back. La Llorona has come to fulfill that curse when introduced as the new nanny of Jorgito, the couple's young son.

La Llorona will not rest until ending the child's life. With terrifying and frightening scenes, the woman faces the memory of her dead children while attacking Jorgito, and in her crying pain and despair, she slowly fades away sparing the child. A real gem of terror, La Llorona will take you to the edge of suspense, love and betrayal, but beware to hear her crying.
