Knights of the Round Table, released in 1953, is an epic historical drama that tells the story of the legendary King Arthur and his loyal knights. It stars Robert Taylor as King Arthur, Ava Gardner as his queen, Guinevere, and Mel Ferrer as the villainous Mordred. The movie opens with a prologue that introduces the story of King Arthur and the sword in the stone. We see a young Arthur pulling the sword out of the stone and being crowned king of England. The story then jumps ahead several years to the height of Arthur's reign. He rules over a peaceful and prosperous kingdom and is loved by his people.

One day, a young knight named Lancelot (played by Franco Nero) comes to Camelot seeking to join Arthur's Round Table. Lancelot becomes the best of the knights and soon becomes Arthur's closest companion. However, Lancelot and Guinevere soon fall in love, leading to a conflict that threatens to destroy Arthur's kingdom.

Meanwhile, Mordred, Arthur's illegitimate son, is plotting against him. Mordred is bitter and resentful towards Arthur, believing that he has been denied his rightful place as heir to the throne. Mordred allies himself with the Saxons, a group of barbarians who are attacking the kingdom. The stage is set for a final battle between Arthur and his knights and the forces of Mordred and the Saxons.

The film is filled with epic battles, stunning set pieces, and a tremendous sense of spectacle. The medieval landscapes are beautifully shot, and the film's score, composed by Miklos Rozsa, is stirring and majestic.

Robert Taylor is excellent as King Arthur, displaying the right mix of bravery, nobility, and melancholy. Ava Gardner is also superb as Guinevere, conveying the character's passion and conflicted emotions. Mel Ferrer is convincing as Mordred, imbuing the character with a sense of menace and cunning.

Overall, Knights of the Round Table is an epic and grandiose retelling of the Arthurian legend. It captures the grandeur and scope of the story, while also exploring themes of loyalty, betrayal, and destiny. It is a must-see for fans of classic historical dramas and remains a timeless cinematic masterpiece.
