After discovering her grandfather passed away, Sanjay Shah, an Indian-American man, travels to India to fulfill his last wish - to spread his ashes in a holy river. Little does Sanjay know that his journey will lead him to a surprising discovery about his family's hidden past. In India, he meets his cousin, the beautiful and vibrant Anu, who is desperate to escape the arranged marriage her family has set up for her. In an effort to avoid the wedding, Anu convinces Sanjay to pretend to be her fake fiancé. Sanjay reluctantly goes along with the plan and the two head off on a wild adventure across India.
As Sanjay and Anu journey together, they begin to fall in love. However, they soon discover that their families have a complicated history. Sanjay's grandfather and Anu's grandmother were once lovers who were forced to part ways due to family and cultural differences.
