The film opens with Malcolm King, a successful businessman, living the high life. He has a luxurious mansion, a flashy car, and a beautiful wife, Renee. However, things are not as perfect as they seem, and Malcolm is secretly planning to divorce Renee. He has been carrying on an affair with his secretary, and he is determined to keep his fortune away from his soon-to-be ex-wife.
One day, Malcolm comes up with a plan to fake his own kidnapping and demand a ransom from Renee. He hires a couple of bumbling criminals, Corey and Andre, to carry out the plan, but things quickly spiral out of control. The criminals misinterpret his instructions and end up kidnapping the wrong person - Malcolm's mistress, Peaches. Meanwhile, Renee is not exactly eager to pay the ransom and puts her own plan into action to catch Malcolm and his accomplices.
The film is full of slapstick comedy, with Malcolm and the criminals getting into all sorts of ridiculous situations. Anthony Anderson delivers a fantastic performance as Malcolm King, nailing the character's arrogance and selfishness. Jay Mohr is a standout as the bumbling criminal Corey. His comedic timing and delivery are spot on, and he steals every scene he is in. Regina Hall also delivers a great performance as Peaches, the mistress who finds herself caught up in the kidnapping plot.
The film's soundtrack features a mix of classic and contemporary soul, R&B, and hip-hop, adding to the film's overall energy and vibe.
While King's Ransom may not be the most sophisticated comedy out there, it is a fun and entertaining film that delivers plenty of laughs. The film's cast is talented and engaging, and the story is full of twists and turns that keep the audience engaged from start to finish.
