Kalifornia is a 1993 thriller movie directed by Dominic Sena and starring Brad Pitt, Juliette Lewis, David Duchovny, and Michelle Forbes. The film tells the story of a journalist named Brian Kessler (Duchovny) and his girlfriend Carrie Laughlin (Forbes), who embark on a cross-country road trip to research a book on serial killers. Along the way, they pick up a couple, Early Grayce (Pitt) and Adele Corners (Lewis), who are also planning to travel to California.

The movie opens with a montage of crime scenes and newspaper clippings about serial killers, which sets the tone for the dark and disturbing plot that unfolds. Brian and Carrie are both fascinated by serial killers, and their research leads them to seek out real-life murderers. They plan to visit locations where infamous killers committed their crimes, like Charles Manson's ranch and the site of the Sharon Tate murders.

Early and Adele seem like friendly and harmless companions at first, but as the road trip progresses, their true nature is revealed. Early is a violent and unpredictable criminal, prone to fits of rage and outbursts of violence. He's fascinated by guns and enjoys playing violent video games. Adele is his childlike and submissive girlfriend, who goes along with whatever Early wants.

The tension between the two couples continues to build throughout the movie, with Brian and Carrie slowly realizing that they've made a mistake by picking up Early and Adele. Early becomes increasingly aggressive and threatening, while Adele opens up to Carrie about her troubled past and her dependency on Early.

The performances by the main cast are excellent, with Brad Pitt in particular standing out as the charismatic but deeply disturbed Early Grayce. Juliette Lewis also gives a strong performance as Adele, capturing both her vulnerability and her dark side. David Duchovny is solid as the morally ambiguous journalist, while Michelle Forbes adds depth to her character as Brian's girlfriend with a dark past.

The film is not without its flaws, however. The pacing can be slow at times, and the ending feels rushed and unsatisfying. The violence and graphic content may also be too much for some viewers, as the movie doesn't shy away from showing the grisly details of Early's crimes.

Despite these issues, Kalifornia is a well-crafted and haunting movie that explores the darker side of human nature. Its themes of violence, obsession, and the blurred lines between good and evil still resonate today, making it a worthwhile watch for fans of psychological thrillers.

Kalifornia is a 1993 thriller with a runtime of 1 hour and 57 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.7 and a MetaScore of 49.
